  • Old Islay Scotch is often a magical experience, but either Port Charlotte 18 hasn’t yet gotten to that point — or it’s blown right past it. Bummer either way.

  • Nose:

Powerful lemon curd, honey, sweet cream, malted grains, toffee and sweet smoke, slate, minerality and barbecue pork. Delectable.

  • Taste:

Rich on the palate, a great blend of sweet, richness and smoke. Toffee, honey, caramels, lemon curd, brown butter, salinity and minerality pop at first. Beautiful peat smoke sneaks in and develops a bit of structure, complexity. Rich, layered, full of life.

  • Finish:

Long finish, heavy on the sweet toffees, smoke, honey and more lemon curd, ash, barbecue smoke and a touch of minerality.

  • Overall:

Gorgeous release from Bruichladdich and undoubtedly a favorite to date. This is every bit Port Charlotte and even moreso a winner.

  • Score:

    92
