It smells to me like a wet Irish morning (minus the livestock) and had a light, fruity sweetness with a very smooth finish. Not much complexity though not harsh, it’s a perfectly average whisky.
While it does come across as quite light and hot, especially in comparison to the other Bushmills offerings, it never veers towards the saccharine or vanilla extract qualities I’ve experienced in other entry level Irish blends.
There is concordance between the nose and palate; the taste is sweet and honeyed, with orange, lemon and lime zest, and well-integrated spices, then becomes creamier, with custard, banana loaf, a little dark peel, and marmalade. Honey and citrus round things off nicely.
It’s cheap and versatile so in that respect it’s a decent value, but it’s not one of my favorite whiskies and for my money I’d rather get something else.
Aromas of pear, honey, and yeasty fresh bread come out first to say hello followed by nods from wood spices, grass, and toasted sugar. The finish is short and sweet.
