RHONY’s Erin Lichy Teams up With Deuxmoi for Additive-Free Mezcal Brand

Real Housewives of New York star Erin Lichy is defying the celebrity tequila formula with her latest venture, Mezcalum.

Distilled from a combination of agave Espadin and wild-grown agave Cuishe, the new mezcal is being boasted as a zero additive, zero carb spirit designed for self-proclaimed “wellness warriors.”

The unexpected collection of investors behind the brand includes Erin and her husband Abe Lichy, “curator of pop culture” Deuxmoi, New York Jets Wide Receiver Randall Cobb and co-founder Chris Roth.

“Mezcalum was an idea born from our love of drinking mezcal with family and friends in Tulum,” said Erin Lichy in a press release.

“Inspired by the exuberant city and its rich culture, we set out to pay our tribute to Tulum with a unique Mezcal blend by marrying the Oaxacan culture and sexy beach vibe of Tulum. As an entrepreneur, mother and real estate agent, developer and designer, balance is key in my life, and Mezcalum offers just that.”

While tequila is distilled from steamed agave Tequilana, the agave used to make mezcal (which can span up to 30 varieties) is typically fire-roasted in underground pits. That roasting process is responsible for mezcal’s divisive smoky flavor, though Lichy says that her new brand offers a “low smoke” profile combined with “complex undertones and a great depth for a palatable taste.”

So far as trends go, celebrity-owned tequila has dominated liquor store shelves over the past few years. Everyone from Kendall Jenner to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has thrown their hats into the ring — RHOSLC’s Lisa Barlow was a particularly early investor when she launched Vida Tequila in 2007.

Mezcal, on the other hand, hasn’t had quite the same star power. Alongside Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul’s Dos Hombres and Lykke Li’s Yola Mezcal, Lichy is one of the few celebrities to venture outside of tequila in the crowded agave spirits market.

Mezcalum is now available for pre-order at $49.99 via its website.
