Amidst endless headlines speculating on dating rumors and subliminal disses, it’s easy to forget the massive business empire that Drake has built behind the scenes of his music career.

In addition to well-known imprints like OVO Fashion and Sirius XM, the rapper-turned-entrepreneur has invested in the likes of Better World Fragrance’s candles, e-sports team 100 Thieves and his oft-forgotten (and oft-debated) Virginia Black Whiskey. Of course, from Nike to Dom Pérignon, Drake is also no stranger to product placement.

Over the past year, a mysterious light yellow drink has taken center stage. Whether he’s posting inspirational messages on Instagram or interviewing with Bobbi Althoff, Drake has been photographed again and again sipping from a massive wine glass filled with ice and indiscernible fruit chunks.

In a recent interview posted to TikTok, Drake finally spilled the details about his favorite cocktail.

“Everybody always sees me with this drink and they ask me what it is and they ask me for one. It’s an Onda; a tequila spritz-esque cocktail, passion fruit flavor by the way,” said Drake.

“Shout out to my brother Matt, shout out to Shay — of course, Shay Mitchell — who came up with this product. And now I drink it every day. I’m probably on my millionth glass.”

For the uninitiated, Shay Mitchell is a Canadian-born actress best known for her dramatic roles in Pretty Little Liars, You and The Possession of Hannah Grace. Her first-ever on-screen appearance was in Degrassi, where she possibly met co-star Drake for the first time.

In 2021, Mitchell teamed up with co-founder Kelli Adams for the launch of Onda Tequila Seltzer, described as a “90’s surf style” cocktail brand featuring tropical flavors like Pineapple, Mango, Blood Orange and, inevitably, Passion Fruit.

Though it’s unclear whether Drake has signed on as an official sponsor, his love for sparkling tequila cocktails has undeniably put the celebrity-owned brand on the map.
