‘Blended Only Once, Never Again to Be Replicated’: Tequila Komos Debuts $2,000 11-Year Extra Añejo

The tequila industry is always reaching for new extravagantly numbered heights.

Throwing its hat into the madness, Tequila Komos has debuted Komos XO, a blended batch aged in a combination of American oak bourbon, French oak red, white wine and Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks for up to 11 years. The 42% ABV expression — limited to a one-off release — will be hitting liquor store shelves at a jaw-dropping $1,999.

“The launch of XO serves as a true celebration of the craftsmanship, innovation, and technique that has formed Komos into the global brand it is today,” said Richard Betts, co-founder and co-CEO.

“From a craft perspective, Komos much more resembles a wine company than a typical spirit company. For example, having hand-picked every single barrel used to create XO, I am proud to say that our latest expression is the absolute pinnacle of aged tequila, masterfully designed to elevate any occasion.”

Komos XO is said to deliver a “provocative” textured palate of chocolate, vanilla, toast, smoke and dried fruits. Each clear crystal decanter is topped off with the brand’s logo and marked “Batch No.1.”; evidently, a must-have if you’re willing to shell out a couple thousand bucks.

Distilled under the same roof as Flecha Azul and Gran Orendain, Tequila Komos was launched in 2017 with a specialty in ex-wine cask finishes. To date, the brand has released a Reposado Rosa, Añejo Reserva, Añejo Cristalino and Extra Añejo.
