  • One might expect a UFC fighter's whiskey to have some kick, but Proper 12 lands on the palate with the softest of touches.

  • Proper Twelve Irish Whiskey is on par with Bushmills White, which makes sense since that’s essentially what it seems to be.

  • This mostly disappointing whiskey encompasses both bitter and sweet, all while packing a punch that is still a bit rough around the edges.

  • It's hard to want to go many rounds deep with this whiskey - the nose is arguably the best part. It's young, immature, lacks complexity and character. If you're going to buy into a celebrity whiskey brand, pick another one. If you're looking for an Irish blend, pick another one. It's hard to call Proper 12, well, Proper anything at all.

  • Nose:

Sweet on the nose - caramel, praline, musty grain. Ethanol, maple syrup. Really sweet.

  • Taste:

Thin on the palate. Peach, apple, ethanol. A bit hot, quite the ethanol zip for 40% ABV. Pepper, musty malt and grain.

  • Finish:

Short finish, hot, peppery and plenty of plasticity that isn't particularly enjoyable.

  • Overall:

It's hard to want to go too many rounds deep with this whiskey - the nose is arguably the best part. It's young, immature, lacks complexity and character. If you're going to buy into a celebrity whiskey brand, pick another one. If you're looking for an Irish blend, pick another one.
