  • The fact that the mashbill could easily be turned into a heavily malted bourbon and that it was aged in a new charred oak barrel, helps make this a great introduction into American malt whiskey.

  • A creative, if peculiar choice for Woodford, crafted from 51% malted barley.

  • This tastes different. They are innovating in this space, I think this should be on every bourbon geek's must-try list.

  • Very much a retooled, malt-forward take on Woodford's classic profile.

  • There are hints of dried fruits, nuts, and oak as well, while the finish has subtle touches of chocolate, almonds, and a hint of barley sugar. Very nice.

  • The malt isn't particularly well integrated and the youth is hard to ignore. Stick with the others.

  • Nose:

Musty and funky. A bit of brown sugar, some toffee, clove and pepper. Earthy with a hint of dirt, oak and tobacco.

  • Taste:

Malty and musty, the malt is dominant. Wet cardboard, musty grass and leaves. Some cocoa and brown sugar.

  • Finish:

Short finish. A bit hot. Musty and malty with a good deal of wet grass, musty cardboard and young whiskey notes.

  • Overall:

This offering is one that perhaps tints the Woodford image a bit. The malt isn't particularly well integrated and the youth is hard to ignore. Stick with the others.
