An April 2023 release, this bourbon is a tribute to the legacy of the eighth-generation grandmother of Jefferson’s founder Trey Zoeller, one of the earliest documented female bootleggers and whiskey runners in history. Jefferson's Marian McLain is a blend of 11-year-old Kentucky bourbon, 14-year-old Tennessee bourbon, rum-cask-finished bourbon, wheated double-barrel bourbon and 8-year-old Kentucky bourbon. Pleasant and sweet on the nose, with red berries, sweet cream, honey, toffee and a light bit of nougat. Light on oak and spice but rich in sweetness and enticing fruitiness.
Sweet cream, brown butter, red berries, toffee and touch of cinnamon. The palate is moderate in viscosity, pleasant but not wildly complex. Pleasant tannins. There isn't a wild amount of dryness but enough to balance the sweetness.
The finish is short — pleasant but ultimately short-lived. Brown sugar, cinnamon, cherries.
This is a nice pour. It’s not incredible, but there’s enough here to entice the average drinker, and it does well enough from tip to tail.
