The first chapter in a busy 2023 for Hardin's Creek brings us Clermont — a 17-year-old expression from the brand that was distilled on the same day and from the same mashbill as liquid from two other locations in the Beam production supply chain in Kentucky. As the name would suggest, this was distilled at Beam's Clermont facility. It's 17 years old and bottled at 55% ABV. Let's dive in!

  • It may not be on the level of masterpiece as Jacob’s Well, but I still can’t wait to see what the next two whiskeys in the series bring forth.

  • I love this pour — it's quintessential, extra-aged Beam whiskey, and it works for my palate.

  • Nose:

Rich buttercream, rich tannin and plenty of oak. The nose is intense but full of really rich savory and sweet interplay. Baking spice, cinnamon, nougat

  • Taste:

Rich palate. Honey, baking spice, fudge, cocoa, tobacco and a light, nutty Beam funk all combine for a really decadent experience on the palate. I was worried this would be an oaky bitter bomb, but that's not the case. Oh, it's delicious.

  • Finish:

Long finish with apple butter, brown sugar and a light hint of spice. The pop of apple butter on the finish is really delicious, and there's just enough spice and oak to keep it balanced.

  • Overall:

I love this pour — it's quintessential, extra-aged Beam whiskey, and it works for my palate. It'll be tricky to find, I suspect, which will be a woe all on its own, but this is really wonderful whiskey. Bartender: another!
