A venerable release for Laphroaig, the 2013 release of the Cairdeas line of limited editions is a hit among enthusiasts. Matured in port barrels, let's see how this release shakes out.
Not ugly at all, but this is not for me, I find these bottlings pointless generally speaking. I love Port and raspberries, just not in my whisky. I used to like the PX Cask better.

House Review
Nose:
Mossy vegetal note strikes first. Smells like a field or pasture after rain and then the smoke kicks in. Raw smoke with intense bandages and dying
Taste:
Sweet with lots of wine in the foreground. Thick oily mouthfeel that is complex and sweet with some nice balance between the peat and smoke.
Finish:
Long, sweet and complex. Definitely more earthy and herbal and vegetal than the other two in true Laphroaig fashion. Im really loving this dram and the proof is right on point. Not too high and not too low and the wine sweet balances almost perfectly with the peat and traditional Laphroaig character.
Overall:
Incredible offering displaying some of the best combinations of wine and peat in a long time. Delectable.
