"Distilled from Scottish barley in 2013, Octomore 10.1 is the benchmark of the 10s series. Deliberately stripped back to an ex- American oak maturation, aged just 5 years old, the .1 edition exposes the structure and presence of the Octomore spirit. Combining smoke with a modest maturation, this 10.1 first and foremost demonstrates the true potential of a considered, patient distillation." - per Bruichladdich. This 5 year should be a beast given how little time the oak will have had to tame the peat. Let's give it a go!

Bold, brash peat. BBQ ribs, slate and crushed stone. Honey, a touch of lemon curd. Celery salt, acrid iodine, a touch of pepper.
Medium viscosity on the palate. Honey, ash, burning wood, bbq smoke and celery salt once more. Vegetal, mineral driven. It's a touch hot, but with a high proof, it's not surprising. Overall, this release leans directly into the malt and peat, and it's a sweet ride for doing so.
Long finish, cleaner then you might expect from the palate and nose. Pure malt, lemon curd, a touch of ash and then it's cleanly off.
Metamorphosis is about the best way to describe this particular chapter in the Octomore encyclopedia. From a ragged, rough, brash and assaulting nose, to a supple, rich and complex palate to a clean, pure finish, this is a hell of a ride.
