Fukano Whisky Vault Reserve 1 is a limited-edition Japanese rice whisky produced at Fukano Distillery in Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, on the island of Kyushu. It is distilled from a combination of malted and unmalted rice in a stainless steel still, then aged in various casks for three to 11 years before blending, with a mild sherry influence. The 2018 release was limited to 5,443 bottles globally and bottled at 40.5% ABV. It retailed for around $90 to $97.
Herbal with roasted sage leaves, coriander seed, savory meat juices, and a twinge of tarragon, though there are fruity qualities like fresh peach and clementine.
The result for their #1 release is a light, malty, and sweet dram. It's nutty on the palate, with notes of almond, straw, and a bit of herbaceousness on the finish.
