La Venenosa Sierra Occidental is a raicilla produced by Maestro Tabernero Don Rubén Peña Fuentes in the mountain village of Mascota, Jalisco, at an elevation of 1,500 meters. Made from cultivated Agave maximiliana, it is roasted in a wood-fired adobe oven, naturally fermented with wild yeast and single-distilled in a hybrid Filipino-Arabic still. Batch strength typically ranges from 40% to 42% ABV, and a 750 mL bottle generally retails for $75 to $100.
