Hatozaki Triple Cask Reserve is a Japanese blended malt whisky made at Kaikyo Distillery in Akashi by Master Distiller Kimio Yonezawa. The expression combines hand-selected malt whiskies aged in ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry barrels before a six-month finish in Umeshu plum liqueur casks. It's bottled at 46% ABV and priced at $75 per bottle.
Maderized wine notes, likely driven by the ume, emerge in short order alongside the aroma of toasted nuts. The palate is rather forward with almond and hazelnut notes, soon moving into creamy vanilla, sesame, and pistachio qualities.
