50 Biggest Craft Breweries in the US, Ranked

On Tuesday, the Brewers Association released its 2025 Industry Production Report, detailing the highs and lows of the American craft beer market and rounding up the country’s 50 biggest movers and shakers.
Unsurprisingly, the lion’s share of production is still happening at industrial breweries. Anheuser-Busch, Molson Coors, Constellation, Heineken USA, Diageo and Pabst made up the top six overall brewing companies. D.G. Yuengling and Son Inc., this year’s top craft brewery by sales volume, clocked in at No. 7 on the overall ranking.
It’s promising that a craft brewer in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, could hold its own against some of the world’s largest brewers. Other trends didn’t paint quite as hopeful a picture. The total number of microbreweries fell by 4.4% in 2025, trailed by a 2.7% decline in taprooms and a 2.5% decline in brewpubs.
However, the Brewers Association noted that craft’s share of the beer market by volume increased marginally from 13.2% to 13.3%, suggesting that consumer demand is following through strong as ever.
“The industry outlook points towards cautious optimism, as shifting trends offer hope for a more stable path forward after several challenging years,” said Matt Gacioch, staff economist at the Brewers Association. “While it’s probably premature to say the industry has settled into a ‘new normal,’ there are many indications that we are moving in that direction.”
Before we dive into the ranking, here are a few trends and brewers that tell small pieces of the larger story.
California was home to six of 2025’s top 50 craft breweries: Sierra Nevada, Gordon Biersch, Pizza Port, Russian River, BJ’s Restaurants and Coronado. Ohio was the second-most-popular state, thanks to the debut of a certain celebrity brand we’ll dive into shortly.
Boston Beer Company fell from No. 2 in the 2024 ranking to No. 3 in 2025, trading places with Sierra Nevada Brewing. Consider us surprised! Flavored malt beverages and canned cocktails are some of the fastest-growing moneymakers in today’s alcohol industry — and few companies have invested quite as hard as Boston Beer. In addition to Samuel Adams, Boston Beer is responsible for Twisted Tea, Truly Hard Seltzer, Angry Orchard, Sun Cruiser and Hard Mtn Dew. Though the brewer only fell by a single spot, it suggests that the flavored malt drink category might not be quite as bankable as once thought. (By comparison, Sierra Nevada has largely avoided these kinds of products.)
Athletic Brewing Company jumped from No. 8 to No. 6 — no small feat for a brewer that only produces nonalcoholic beer. The largest dedicated NA beer brewer in America and the third-largest NA beer brand overall, Athletic has witnessed a rapid ascent over the past few years. In addition to its over dozen products, the Connecticut-based brand recently joined forces with country singer Walker Hayes for a collaborative release and was named an official partner of Arsenal Football Club. Nonalcoholic beer is going mainstream, and Athletic is leading the race.
Garage Beer Co made its Top 50 debut at No. 12. And why might a once-unheard-of brewery from Columbus, Ohio, suddenly rank so high, you ask? Simple answer: Jason and Travis Kelce recently became investors, partners and operators of the brand. Garage Beer sells just two products, making its meteoric success all the more astonishing. Whatever you may hear about oversaturation or genre fatigue, celebrity alcohol still has plenty of gas left in the tank.
And without further ado:
