Redbreast Missouri Oak Edition is the latest addition to Redbreast's American Oak series, finishing the signature single pot still whiskey in virgin Missouri oak barrels for ten months. The oak is sourced from the Ozark Forest and the whiskey is initially aged in sherry and ex-bourbon barrels. It's bottled at 50.5% ABV and retails for $199.
As it opens, things get a little dusty with more barrel char and toasted oak aromas. That heavier wood profile carries over on the palate where top notes of barley sugar, vanilla bean, and cooked stone fruit quickly give way to more overbaked notes of dark brown pie crust and crunchy chocolate biscuits.
Honey, oak, red apple, and Oreo cookies spar with baking spices, black tea, and cinnamon bark, leaving a thrilling finish of taut, unflinching oak spices.
