Säntis Malt is a Swiss Alpine whisky produced by Brauerei Locher AG in Appenzell, Switzerland. The distillery has been making whisky since 1999, using spring water from the Alpstein mountains and locally grown Swiss barley. The whisky is uniquely aged in old oak beer casks from the brewery.
It continues with some tropical fruit richness balanced by savoury and dry elements. Pronounced but well controlled wood tannins and spices and an entertaining, long finish.
The aroma of smoked bacon is the first thing that comes to mind nosing this single malt, and the Dreifaltigkeit is indeed a meaty whisky. It's pungent and burly, with a roasty smokiness that's distinctively different from the briny peat of Islay.
