Mainland Rum 10 Years Louisiana, a single-cask rum from Louisiana Spirits in Lacassine, Louisiana, was distilled in September 2014 from unrefined Louisiana sugarcane and Grade A molasses. The rum entered a 53-gallon ex-bourbon barrel with #4 char at 62.5% ABV and aged more than 10.5 years in a non-climate-controlled warehouse in southern Louisiana’s humid climate. Bottled at cask strength 60.4% ABV in May 2025, the release yielded 225 bottles from the single barrel.
On the palate, the rum pops with banana taffy, its estery sweetness quickly balanced by a grounding tobacco note. This dryness soon gives way to genuine maple syrup, accented by a hint of nutmeg. The mouthfeel is heavy and dense. The finish transpires with a touch of black pepper, then pivots back to smoky toasted marshmallows, concluding with honey and soft, dry leather.
This is a very good rum. Its not the most exciting thing out there as it is very much the barrel doing the heavy lifting here, but, I can see it being an enjoyable flavor profile for a lot of folks. Vanilla, brown sugar, a bit of black pepper. Kind of a classic aged rum profile. I wish the distillate was more prominent here as while being good it doesn’t really standout. But, for an American rum being 10 years old, it surpassed my expectations I had for it.
