Tamdhu 21 Years Old is produced at the Tamdhu Distillery in Speyside Scotland and is matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks made from both American and European oak. This limited release is bottled at 47.5% ABV with natural color and no chill-filtration. It retails for around $400.
Dried fruit notes immediately jump out as you sip, as you might expect, along with a range of flavors like baking spice, caramel, and milk and dark chocolate. There are even some savory notes that pop, like sweet and sour barbecue and a bit of umami soy sauce, but these are evened out by sweeter and spicier flavors like vanilla, black pepper, and honey.
I think this is one you’ll want to have sitting on your shelf and pull out on those nice moments when you want something reaching for the extraordinary. Weddings, birthdays, births, anniversaries.
