  • And if you’re just a casual admirer of smoky Islay scotch who is up for tasting some cask-strength whisky, I think you’ll really enjoy this new single malt.

  • The initial complexity didn't necessarily translate to the palate, which – while showing restraint – relied more on the distillate's peatiness and less of the other elements that made the nose such a joy.

  • This is as good, if not even more complex, than I thought it would be. My initial thoughts were that this would just be a smoke and spice bomb, in a good way!

  • Nose:

The nose is fresh and fun with loads of peat, plus saline, biscoff, grape jam, fresh baked biscuits and honey.

  • Taste:

A strong oak spine is joined by brown sugar, cinnamon and gingerbread. The back end of the palate gives huge ash and tobacco, cacao and espresso.

  • Finish:

Peat, iodine and campfire — pure peat vibes.

  • Overall:

A peat bomb, but a delicious one. Seek this out if you love big peaty scotch.

  • Score:

    90
