Glen Scotia Icons of Campbeltown Release No. 2, The Dragon, comes from Glen Scotia Distillery in Campbeltown, Scotland. The medium-peated single malt ages 14 years in American oak casks before a six-month finish in ex-Barolo red wine casks, then bottles at cask strength 56.8% ABV. Pricing averages around $100.
A sweet and peaty Glen Scotia, with a red wine influence I can handle. A bonus point for matching the wine cask so well. A very solid release with a nice dark side.
Really, really good quality Glen Scotia. The short finishing period on Barolo has impacted it more than expected, however it’s done well and the original spirit is still able to shine through. The Barolo character works well with the peatier spirit. It’s complex, nuanced and something we want to drink.
