Mayor Pingree Orange Label Rye Whiskey is made by Valentine Distilling in Ferndale, Michigan. It's a blend of MGP rye and Valentine's own triple pot-distilled rye, aged at least four years in new American oak. The whiskey is bottled at 47% ABV and sells for around $45.
Butterscotch elements provide sweetness, but a smoldering note of hickory embers toughens things up as the finish arrives. Some tarry tobacco notes and a bit of greenness once again evoke more of a youthful character.
It tastes more mature and composed than the bourbon, with a light note of fresh orange peel and brewed Lipton tea on the finish. There are no off aromas, but again it lacks a bit in complexity. With a dash of water it becomes pleasantly minty.
