Spearhead Spirits, a pioneering Black-owned brand established in 2021 by founders Chris Frederick and Damola Timeyin, has unveiled its latest creation, Bayab Palm & Pineapple Gin.

Crafted in a copper pot still in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, the gin features a blend of palm sap from Nigeria and Ghana, coupled with South African pineapple, resulting in what’s described as a tropical and tangy profile. The gin also incorporates Ghanian baobab fruit, Kenyan juniper berries, coriander, rosemary, cinnamon and Botswanan coarse salt.

Spearhead Spirits currently offers three other expressions in the Bayab range: Classic Dry, Burnt Orange & Marula and African Rose Water. In March 2023, the brand made its official entry into the U.S., simultaneously introducing its sugarcane-based Vusa Vodka to the pivotal market.

Bayab Palm & Pineapple Gin is now available for purchase through Reserve Bar, priced at about $35 per 750-ml bottle.

With a mission focused on global representation, Spearhead Spirits aims to showcase African-made spirits with native ingredients on every bar worldwide. Beyond the spirits, the brand’s commitment to promoting Africa’s rich flavors is evident in its sustainable practices. Operating solely on solar power, the distillery meets its energy needs and supports local communities with surplus energy. Spearhead Spirits further emphasizes its dedication to environmental impact by funding a baobab research center in Ghana, with plans to plant a million new baobab trees across Africa.
