Clynelish 18 Year Waxen Sun is one of eight bottlings in Diageo's 2025 Special Releases collection entitled "Horizons Unbound," curated under the guidance of Master Blender Dr. Stuart Morrison. This Clynelish single malt was made using an experimental early cut called the "pineapple cut." It was matured in refill casks and is bottled at cask strength. It retails for around $250.
With a subtle waxy texture, it’s medium-bodied, offering mango sorbet, pineapple, papaya, and citrus-bright taffy candy, followed by a spiced tropical fruit finish. Come sip the sunshine.
A name like ‘pinapple cut’ sets expectations of course. I don’t think it makes up a big part of this composition, as the exotic fruitiness is not huge. That said, a very clean Clynelish, interesting and really nice to drink.
