Louisiana Senator Bourbon Huey P. Long Release is the first in a three-part vertical series, bottled at 107 proof with a mash bill of 78% corn, 13% rye and 9% malted barley. It was created through a collaboration between Kentucky Senator Bourbon and Denny Potter and Jane Bowie of Potter Jane Distillery in Springfield, Kentucky.
Sweet and toasty nose with a fair amount of char. Nice entry on the palate even at 107 proof. Quite smooth and balanced with a light sweet corn essence. Some spice kicks in after several seconds, adding a deeper coloration. Light body with a clean mouthfeel.
Release #1 of Louisiana Senator Bourbon plays it safe, leaning more towards straightforward, traditional notes from start to finish. The whiskey opens with various spices along with a toffee scent before transitioning to more spice-focused traditional flavors at the midpoint.
