Caisteal Chamuis 12 Year Old is a 46% ABV blended malt Scotch whisky from Scotland, bottled in a 750ml format. It is made from a selection of Island single malts aged 12 years in refill American oak hogsheads, then finished in Oloroso sherry casks, including a Solera cask. The whisky is heavily peated and maritime in style, with a double cask maturation.
Watermelon, cherry, and red apple flavors with a smooth mouthfeel, then hot smoke—a bit dry—with red chile flakes, pepper, ginger, and a dry spicy finish. A bit too hot to handle at times, with the spice and smoke dominating the proceedings.
The palate has a pronounced citrus fruit quality mixing with charcoal smoke, vanilla, and graham crackers — almost like a s'more that's missing the chocolate, but spread with fruit jam instead.
The taste is thick and oily with peat smoke and creosote balanced by notes of grilled peaches, honey, toasted vanilla, and a hint of figs. The finish has lingering peat smoke and touches of figs and grilled citrus.
