Compass Box Glasgow Blend is a blended Scotch whisky from Scotland, first released in 2014. It combines Sherry cask-aged whiskies with Islay malt and has a high malt content of approximately 65%, reflecting historical Glaswegian preferences for fuller-bodied, smoky whiskies. Bottled at 43% ABV, it is naturally colored and non-chill-filtered. John Glaser serves as the lead whiskymaker.
The finish retains a light smokiness, with notes of sea spray and lingering notes of sage. There are moments of intrigue in the blend, but on the whole a sense of balance is lacking.
The robust, moderately smoky palate includes almond, shortbread and salted dark chocolate tones, exiting with espresso and cayenne pepper. Made with a blend of single malt and single grain whiskies.
The nose is excellent, and the palate remains deceptively easy to drink, making Glasgow Blend a great entry into peat. It definitely won’t be for everyone, but if you like a savory, hearty blended whisky that’s still an easy drinker, this one is right up your alley.
With a malt content exceeding two-thirds, the full-bodied palate is sweet as brown sugar, with mandarin tartness, apple, and red licorice meandering to a vinous finish of red berry fruit. With its cheeky Glasgow landmark on the label, this permanent addition to the GKS range is pure gallus.
