Ben Lomond Gin, a spirit brand produced by Loch Lomond Distillery, has initiated its Explorer Series with the release of The Schiehallion, a limited-edition gin poised to raise funds for the protection of wild spaces in the United Kingdom. The new series is a joint endeavor with the conservation organization John Muir Trust.
Crafted in collaboration with John Muir Trust botanists, the Explorer Series incorporates botanicals sourced from protected wild places across the U.K. Spotlighting hand-picked wild thyme, birch leaves and blueberries, The Schiehallion draws inspiration from the beauty of Ben Lomond and Loch Lomond, paying homage to the conservation efforts that shaped the landscapes.
“Ben Lomond Gin was inspired by the natural beauty of Ben Lomond and Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, which exists today due to the effort of ‘father of national parks’ John Muir,” said Chief Marketing Officer of Ben Lomond Gin, John Grieveson, according to Dram Scotland. “We’re delighted to launch our Explorer Series in collaboration with the Trust established in his name.”
“It’s truly been a collaborative project from the start, and we worked closely with the John Muir Trust botanists to create The Schiehallion; the perfect balance of sweet and crisp botanicals inspired by the legends of The Fairy Hill of the Caledonians.”
According to the distillery, The Schiehallion boasts a distinctive profile, balancing sweet and crisp botanical notes, inspired by the captivating legends of The Fairy Hill of the Caledonians. Every purchase of this gin contributes directly to the John Muir Trust’s Wild Woods Appeal. This initiative aims to fund the expansion and restoration of native woodlands in the care of the trust, including planting 50,000 trees.
Tom Corke, Manager of John Muir Trust East Schiehallion, has underscored the urgent need for native woodland restoration to address environmental challenges.
“Five thousand years ago, as much as 60 per cent of the UK was covered with trees but centuries of loss caused by human and animal impact, the spread of invasive species, and climate change means that today, native woodland covers just four per cent of the country,” Corke explained, per Dramscotland.
“Woodlands play an essential role in providing clean air, carbon storage and soil retention, as well as providing important habits for many threatened species. As such, our Wild Woods Appeal is putting a spotlight on native restoration, starting with planting 50,000 trees on Skye and Knoydart. This will include Scots pine, birch and rowan – an essential botanical of Ben Lomond Gin.”
“Ben Lomond Gin’s support will help plant, protect and expand these essential ecosystems across the wild places in our care. This partnership will provide valuable funds for the Trust’s work, while raising awareness of this vital cause.”
Priced at £50.00 (about $61) per 70cl bottle, Ben Lomond Gin’s new 43%-ABV offering can be purchased through the brand’s online shop.
