  • It takes a while to open up, but carries its age well and has great texture and spice, mellowed and married well by the oak.

  • Nice enough, but price is a bit steep for what the whiskey delivers.

  • Nose:

The classic dill and mint notes I expect from a 95/5 rye are here immediately, but joined by clove, brown, sugar and a bit of bright orange blossom and peach.

  • Taste:

Oily mouthfeel, herbaceous palate. Fresh mint meets ginger, anise and chocolate shavings.

  • Finish:

The finish is spicy, buttery, long and full. Big anise and clove notes leap out, plus more chocolate, gingerbread and pepper.

  • Overall:

A delicious rye whiskey. Classic 95/5 flavors with additional depth.

  • Score:

    92
