Daddy Rack Tennessee Straight Whiskey is a 3-year-old whiskey produced in Columbia, Tennessee. It is made from a mashbill of 80% corn, 10% rye and 10% malted barley, and undergoes double charcoal mellowing. Bottled at 80 proof, it retails for about $30 per 750ml bottle. Fifty cents from each bottle sold benefits the CORE charity, which supports children of restaurant workers.
On the whole, it’s absolutely fine. Nothing surprising, no left turns, no mystery components. It’s a spot-on yet clearly relatively young bourbon, and although it’s mellowed appropriately it leaves little to the imagination. And that’s fine, right?
Daddy Rack comes on a little aggressive at first, but once it settles down it finds its groove. Long buttery finish leading to hints of salted popcorn. A little water opens it up and before you know it you are slow dancing as a song comes on the jukebox.
To that end, I would love to taste this at a higher proof point. Until then, Daddy Rack is a low-priced whiskey that anyone who isn’t looking for a higher proof will really enjoy.
