Ardbeg Smokiverse is a limited edition single malt scotch whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 48.3% ABV. It is the first Ardbeg expression crafted using a high-gravity mash, a technique that reduces water content in the mash tun to intensify acetate esters. Released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Ardbeg Committee, it debuts on May 31, 2025, during Ardbeg Day at the Fèis Ìle festival on Islay.
Super-sweet Ardbeg is an interesting proposition, and while I usually enjoy the added fruitiness, here the pendulum has swung a bit too far for easy enjoyment.
