5 Years
Aged five years in a mixture of select ex-Oloroso sherry butts and ex-bourbon barrels and bottled at natural cask strength (my bottle was 63.9%), this single malt whisky comes from Cardrona, a woman-owned distillery in New Zealand. Cardrona Distillery also produces The Reid vodka. It's priced at $120 per 375-milliliter bottle.

Sweet, fruit-laden nose. Orange blossom, peach, kiwi, papaya. Lovely blend of tropical fruits with an underlying vanilla bean note, cinnamon and plenty of heat.
Oily mouthfeel with a good amount of heat. Tannin, orange rind, tangerine, peach rings, a touch of rich custard.
Long finish. Orange sherbet, valencia orange peel, butterscotch and tobacco.
A bruising single malt that's delightful and fruity.
