A product from "Bar Rescue" host Jon Taffer, this is a browned butter-flavored bourbon. The idea spawned in November 2021, when Taffer played around with making a browned butter-infused whiskey using sous vide in the kitchen of Taffer's Tavern in Alpharetta, Georgia. He ended up making a cocktail out of it, which was very popular at the restaurant. And Taffer decided to figure out a mass-production way to get the stuff on shelves. Produced by Diageo, Taffer's Browned Butter Bourbon is made from a blend of two bourbons — one with a high-rye mashbill and the other with a low-rye one. According to Taffer, the flavors infused into the bourbon are all natural and contain "very, very little sugar." It has a suggested retail price of $34.99 and is available in select markets. It initially debuted in 2023 in Las Vegas and Boston, but Taffer hopes to continue expanding until it's nationwide.

  • A little more savoriness in the flavor profile may have provided a more well balanced product. Overall, this is a very sweet whiskey that's more butter than bourbon forward.

  • This is quite good for a flavored whiskey: sweet but memorable and reasonably complex.

  • Nose:

Pure butterscotch on the nose. You definitely get that browned butter scent, but it's sweeter than that, which leads to huge butterscotch aromas, plus caramel and vanilla.

  • Taste:

Syrupy mouthfeel. The palate is sweet but less so than the nose. This is where the browned butter really comes through. It nails that flavor, albeit with more sweetness than you'd get from natural browned butter. Warm buttered bread, butterscotch, walnuts.

  • Finish:

Medium finish. Graham cracker, brown sugar, vanilla.

  • Overall:

This is quite good for a flavored whiskey: sweet but memorable and reasonably complex.

  • Score:

    85
