Courage & Conviction Cuvée Cask is a 3-year-old American single malt whisky produced by Virginia Distillery Co. in Lovingston, Virginia. Made from 100% malted barley, it is aged in STR-treated European red wine casks and bottled at 92 proof. The whisky carries a suggested price of $85.
At first, it’s all cocoa powder, but then creamier, dark chocolate envelops those red fruits until you’re left with a big box of fancy chocolate-covered strawberries. It’s a roller coaster ride of predominantly fruit-forward flavors, which might not appeal to the more traditional malt lover. I, for one, am really, really enjoying it.
The balance on the nose and palate is really good. The finish has a bit more smoke than I expected but you know what? It is putting a smile on my face!
