I.W. Harper 12 Year Kentucky Bourbon is produced at Heaven Hill's Bernheim Distillery and bottled at 43% ABV. Aged 12 years in charred oak barrels, it is available with a price range of $50-$100.
As someone who likes pre-60s and 60s style of bourbon where the distillate is more balanced with the wood, I can appreciate this. But this may be not for bourbon drinkers who are after the enticing sweetness of today’s bourbon.
There’s a set path for this bourbon. I can imagine someone just said “I want something easy to drink, that has vegetal, floral, and fruit notes, and I want it smooth.” And honestly, that’s what they got. It’s almost too smooth for me, and doesn’t really try anything new or different.
