  • Even though it’s cheap it’s not going to be something I immediately reach for when I get home so it’s going to sit for a bit unfortunately till we do another rye event at the whiskey clubs.

  • The new Michter’s may not make this themselves, but I find it just excellent on a Mitteleuropaisches palate. This session starts well.

  • The finish is long and spicy, with more honeysuckle, rye and barrel coming through.

  • What comes across is a rather straightforward whiskey that masks its more interesting elements in lumber. Drinkable and mixable, but short on character.

  • While this is a bottle I do not regret buying and will pull out for friends when it’s time to do a flight of ryes, it’s probably not one I’ll replace at $45.

  • The bite comes first (and lingers awhile), followed by vanilla, caramel, coconut flavors. It mellows considerably with ice, and becomes quite likeable, drinkable and mild.

  • Michter's collects lots of hate for shady marketing and tight lipped sourcing but this is a nice product with enjoyable characteristics.

  • On the palate, the intense layered sweetness of vanilla, crème brûlée, pecan pie, butterscotch, and honey is tempered by chili spice and deep earthy notes of leather and tobacco, before toffee and baking spices carry into the long finish.

  • Nose:

Rye wallop followed by a mountain of vanilla. Spice, leather, pepper and a little brown sugar before one last wave of rye spice.

  • Taste:

Its initially fairly bitter with a little astringent note. This fades quickly to nougat and sweetness, vanilla and caramel.

  • Finish:

Medium to long, not insanely complex but still not bad. More of the same vanilla and rye spice.

  • Overall:

Overall, this isn't a bad product at all. Michter's collects lots of hate for shady marketing and tight lipped sourcing but this is a nice product with enjoyable characteristics.
