Bluebird Distilling Four Grain Bourbon is produced in Pennsylvania with a mashbill of 60% corn, 20% rye, 10% red winter wheat and 10% malted barley. Rested in new charred oak barrels, it has an ABV of 46% and blends bourbon aged between 2.5 and 4 years.
This bourbon has a medium, relatively clean finish with notes of sweet and spicy toffee, cinnamon, and vanilla. The fresh, grassy herbaceousness is reminiscent of some nice Irish whiskies I've tasted.
A coffee note gives the finish more texture, though the weight of wood is never far from sight. In fact, all that char weighs down the conclusion with heavy notes of clove and a dusky/grassy rye element, though a caramel-laced brightness does manage to endure somewhat for the long haul.
