Released for the first time in January 2025, Bomberger’s PFG (Precision Fine Grain) Kentucky Straight Bourbon is a product from Michter's. Bomberger’s PFG is first aged in a new toasted and charred American oak barrel and then finished in a new toasted and charred French fine grain oak barrel, which Michter's describes as "of the most exacting specifications." These barrels are crafted from woods from various locations, including the Tronçais, Allier, Nevers, and Vosges forests. The wood is naturally air-dried outdoors for at least 40 months near the Charente river in France. Then, staves are selected and made into barrels, which are toasted at a "tightly defined" temperature range before being charred. This bourbon has a suggested retail price of $140 per 750-milliliter bottle.

  • Nose:

The nose is big, lovely, flavorful and rich — sweet with a subtle kick of baking spice. Filled with powdered sugar, crème brûlée, buttercream, cherry, almond, cinnamon and gingerbread.

  • Taste:

The mouthfeel is moderate to rich in viscosity, and the flavor profile is rich and decadent. There's plenty of cherry on the palate, plus cake batter, hazelnut, toasted oak, rich caramel apple, butterscotch, cinnamon, white pepper, candied ginger and clove.

  • Finish:

This spectacular bourbon finishes long and leans more heavily into spice — cinnamon, clove, pepper and nutmeg — plus kicks in some tobacco, toasted oak, ash, peach, dried cranberry, cherry, tannin and sweet custard.

  • Overall:

It's classic Michter's and oh so delicious — sweet and rich with just enough balancing spice. It may not overwhelm you with complexity, but it's exquisitely balanced and absolutely delicious. An early contender for whiskey of the year.
