Released in February 2025, this is a limited-edition iteration of Garrison Brothers' popular double-oaked bourbon, Balmorhea. Unlike the usual Balmorhea, it's bottled at cask strength. Only 1,000 bottles were released, and Garrison Brothers donated $50 from each sale to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation. Proof should vary based on barrel, but my bottle contains 66.05% ABV.

  • A powerful, rich, bruising bourbon with good complexity and mouthfeel, this expression is pretty heavy on the tannin and heat, but if you're a fan of those things, it should appeal to you.

  • Nose:

The nose is deep and complex with plenty of heat dissuading you from diving in too deep. Vanilla ice cream, root beer, custard, sour cherry candies, clove.

  • Taste:

Plenty of heat on the palate. Signature Garrison fun is joined by intense tannin, cherry cola, leather and loads of barrel char. With a couple of drops of water, it really opens up — while staying true to its char-heavy essence — offering opulent desserty character, with caramel-drizzled brownies, sugar cookies, a light banana note and a sprinkling of cinnamon.

  • Finish:

Long, satisfying, rich finish that goes on and on with notes of toasted oak, charred walnuts, stewed cherry pits and a touch of spearmint.

  • Overall:

A powerful, rich, bruising bourbon with good complexity and mouthfeel, this expression is pretty heavy on the tannin and heat, but if you're a fan of those things, it should appeal to you. I'm typically a neat whiskey purist, but for me, this benefits from a few drops of water, which really opens it up and adds some sweet, fluffy character.
