Target is significantly expanding its intoxicating hemp beverage sales, adding THC drinks to more than 300 stores across Florida, Texas and Illinois as mainstream retailers continue pushing deeper into the fast-growing category, per BevNET.

The rollout will include all Target stores in Florida and Texas, along with Illinois locations where local regulations permit the sale of hemp-derived THC beverages.

Target confirmed the expansion to BevNET, describing it as a limited test while emphasizing that customers must be at least 21 years old to purchase the products.

“At Target, we’re always exploring new ways to meet our guests’ evolving preferences, grounded in our merchandising authority and focus on thoughtfully curating a relevant assortment,” a company spokesperson said.

The expansion marks a major step forward for THC beverages inside traditional mass retail channels, particularly as large national chains cautiously explore the category amid ongoing regulatory uncertainty.

Industry sources told BevNET that participating stores are expected to carry a limited selection of brands, potentially including Cann, Wynk, Trail Magic, Stigma, Gigli, Señorita and Daizy’s. Products are being displayed in endcap sections inside stores.

Target first entered the hemp beverage category last year with a small pilot program in Minnesota. The company later expanded that test after receiving approval from Minnesota regulators to sell lower-potency hemp products in dozens of additional stores.

The retailer also reportedly broadened its assortment beyond 5mg THC beverages earlier this year by adding some 10-milligram products.

The expansion comes despite mounting uncertainty surrounding the future of intoxicating hemp products in the United States. A federal spending bill passed by Congress last year included language that could effectively ban hemp products containing more than 0.4% THC beginning in November 2026 unless lawmakers revise the framework before then.

According to BevNET, some industry sources believe Target may reduce or discount THC beverage inventory later this year if the regulatory situation remains unresolved.

Even with that uncertainty, large retailers and beverage distributors continue moving aggressively into the category.

Sprouts Farmers Market and Circle K have both expanded THC beverage offerings in states where hemp-derived THC remains legal, while Breakthru Beverage recently announced plans to distribute THC drinks in permitted markets.

The rapid expansion highlights growing confidence among retailers that hemp-derived beverages could become a long-term category alongside traditional alcohol and functional drinks.
