Tanqueray Old Tom Gin is a London-style gin based on an 1835 recipe from the Tanqueray archives. Master distiller Tom Nichol recreated the recipe and released a limited edition of 100,000 bottles worldwide in June 2014. The gin is 47.3% ABV and presents as clear in the glass.

Botanicals include juniper, angelica root, coriander, and liquorice. Per the brand, the aroma combines pine and juniper with liquorice and orris root, accented by sugared ginger, lemon zest, and sage.

Tanqueray has a heritage spanning over 180 years, originating with Charles Tanqueray, who began crafting gin in 1830 at the Diageo Cameronbridge Distillery.

  • Tanqueray Old Tom is never cloying. It’s really nicely balanced and quite delicious, even just on its own.

  • I'm glad I picked this up, admittedly on a whim, because it has become a really strong go-to gin. Its unique, makes for really interesting cocktail exposure and works great neat or with a cube as well. I had concerns with the sweetness, but there was enough other character to make it an interesting characteristic and not a dominating factor.

  • Dusty spices and angelica come out on the nose first. The touch of sweet pairs nicely bringing out the brightness of the coriander. The gin is soft and finishes bittersweet. An all-around balanced gin and one that you could drink on its own or in a simple Pink Gin cocktail.

  • Nose:

Light citrus notes, hefty juniper and some lovely honey and black pepper.

  • Taste:

Rich and full bodied mouthfeel - the proof is doing positive favors here. The sweetness is very apparent, but far from cloying, with more citrus peel, some lime, strong juniper presence and a butter cream sweetness near the end.

  • Finish:

Finish is medium length, mild in terms of heat and the juniper and pepper presence grow. This balances very nicely with the good deal of sweetness left from the palate.

  • Overall:
