Sango Reposado Agave Spirit is produced by Spearhead Spirits in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, using wild-grown Agave americana from the Karoo Desert and Agave salmiana from the Eastern Cape. The agave is pit- and oven-roasted, fermented with wild African yeast and Drakensberg water, then triple distilled in copper pot and column stills before resting up to 120 days in South African Pinotage wine barrels. It is bottled at 40% ABV and typically retails for around $55.
The liquid has a bright, light-gold appearance. Almond and honey sweetness introduce the palate, leading to a gentle, toasty finish accented by eucalyptus and jalapeno tingle, plus a hint of honeysuckle.
The barrel gives the nose of this spirit some needed depth, tempering the grassier notes with some wafting aromas of vanilla, dark chocolate, caramel, and a pinch of spice.
Roasted bell pepper and sundried tomato meet zesty lime and cumin on the nose. Medium body with a hint of astringency, finishing strong with a punch of flavour.
