Henry Kraver's Old Reserve 10-year-old Bourbon is made by Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co. in Louisville using a sweet mash process instead of the traditional sour mash. It is the distillery's first official age-statement bourbon, bottled at barrel proof with no water added and never chill-filtered. It is bottled at 117.6 proof (58.8% ABV) and represents 10 years of aging since the Taylor family revived the Peerless brand.
The palate opens with ribbons of toffee sweetness intertwined with clove, cardamom and black pepper. Adding water amps up the spice, layering on cinnamon and cayenne heat. The long finish surprises with an orange peel note.
