Released July 24, 2026, 117 Series: Triple Char Bourbon is the first Old Forester expression made entirely from whiskey distilled at the Main Street distillery in Louisville, which opened in summer 2018. According to Old Forester, this bourbon is aged in barrels that were charred three times as long as the standard for old forester whiskey. Triple Char will be available in limited quantities at the Old Forester Distillery and select Kentucky retailers. Suggested retail price is $64.99 per 375-milliliter bottle.

House Review
  • Nose:

    The nose is very sweet with a bit of heat. Vanilla latte, French toast, butterscotch, toasted almonds, orange candies, graham cracker.

  • Taste:

    The palate has a great viscosity and quite a bit of heat to it. Picture yellow cake with chocolate frosting, joined by butterscotch, buttered cornbread and singed orange peel peach, plus a significant dark, tannic profile: tobacco, espresso, charred walnuts, charred oak. There’s a pronounced cinnamon roll note, too, as well as some clove and a bit of cherry. The back palate leans heavily into those dark tannic notes, but there’s a bit of dark chocolate-covered mint in there, too.

  • Finish:

    The finish leads with cinnamon, gingerbread and brown sugar, which leads into tobacco, barrel char and tea, and concludes with an unexpected burst of toasted marshmallow and coconut.

  • Overall:

    I'm not sure of the age on this (Old Forester started distilling in Summer 2018 at its Main Street location, so maximum age is likely right at 8 years), but it tastes a bit more grain-forward than I’m used to from Old Forester. That's not to say that it tastes young; I'm used to a certain profile from Old Forester, and while this has a lot in common with that profile, it differs in a way that feels guided by grain, not oak. The barrel absolutely contributes plenty here, though — mostly big, charry notes. This is a solid bourbon from Old Forester. I look forward to tasting future expressions out of the Main Street distillery.
