Glendalough Distillery, founded in 2011 by five friends from Dublin and Wicklow, produces its poitín using malted barley and pure spring water. The spirit is triple distilled in a traditional copper pot still and bottled at 55% ABV. Pricing typically starts around $31.
Unfortunately, there’s no fruit, no real interest on the palate to make this investment worthwhile, just a cacophony of raw flavors straight off the still that never quite makes it. All poitin tends to be something of an acquired taste, but this expression may require more acquiring than others.
