Chip Tate created Gambit No. 6, a Kentucky straight bourbon for Foley Family Wines & Spirits. The 6-year-old bourbon uses a mash bill of 78% corn, 10% rye and 12% malted barley, then undergoes finishing in six barrel types: Chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, apple brandy, muscatel, oloroso sherry and Tokaji casks. Bottled at 46% ABV, it retails for around $70.
Fruit forward nose with an intriguing and mouthwatering aroma. On the tongue, the fruit essences really open up and coat the palate with a cornucopia of fruit flavors. Exceptionally well blended, the characters of each barrel come through as a cohesive whole. The overall effect is almost cocktail-like in presentation.
