Código 1530 Mezcal Artesenal is made from a blend of espadín and tobala agave sourced from Oaxaca. The agave is cooked in an earthen oven, crushed with a burro-pulled tahona, and distilled using a copper alambique still. The mezcal is rested for one month in Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc wine barrels. The production process involves no additives, chemicals, sweeteners or coloring, per the brand.
A thick maritime character gives this spirit a chewy, chalky finish that’s hard to shake. I immediately long for the fruitier notes that are oh so fleeting.
