Amaro dell'Etna is a Sicilian herbal liqueur produced by Agrosan Sicilia at the base of Mount Etna in Sicily, Italy. The recipe dates to 1901 and uses more than 26 all-natural herbs and aromatic plants, including bitter orange peel, licorice, cinnamon and vanilla, macerated and then matured for over two months. It is bottled at 29% ABV and retails for around $30-45 per 750ml.

  • The palate sees the addition of vanilla, some cocoa powder, and an orange peel element all layering upon one another, leading to a finish that is at first moderately bitter, but over time revealing itself to be sweeter than expected.

  • The satiny liquid is a paradoxically cool stream of lava that's luxurious and decadent on the palate. There's no cloying sweetness, and the bitter cherry, anise, coffee bean, and black tea notes are delicately balanced.
