Woody Creek Distillers Mary’s Select Gin, created under the direction of CEO Mary Scanlan, starts with Woody Creek Gin, which undergoes a seven-day maceration. Rhubarb steeps for the full seven days, yuzu and elderflower are added for the final two days and butterfly pea blossoms are added during the last 24 hours. The gin is then filtered, diluted with reverse osmosis water and bottled at 42% ABV. Its blend of botanicals also includes fresh lemon, orange, lime, lemongrass from Osage Gardens in Rifle, Colorado, juniper, coriander, cinnamon, angelica, hibiscus, grains of paradise, lavender, cranberries and rose hips. A bottle retails for $39.99.

  • Nose:

Cheery and sweetly floral on the nose with notes of jasmine, orange blossom, almond, strawberry compote and honey.

  • Taste:

Herbal and jammy, featuring juicy red fruits such as cherry, pomegranate and plum, along with hibiscus, vanilla, roselle, cooked rhubarb and toasted grain.

  • Finish:

Medium length finish of dry citrus rind, bitter cinnamon and black peppercorn.

  • Overall:

Great for spring and summer sipping, Mary’s Select is an expressive gin offering a fruity, herbaceous and subtly spiced profile. It works well served simply with soda water and lemon, but it also shines in craft cocktails thanks to its color-shifting butterfly pea flower ingredient.
