Piney juniper, black tea, orange peel and floral bergamot on the sweet, perfumed nose.
The palate amplifies the aromas found on the nose, revealing more sappy juniper, sweetened black tea, soft dried orange peel and fragrant bergamot. Additional layers of bitter cacao, lemon oil, wildflower honey, heather, brown sugar and vanilla sugar unfold across the tongue before giving way to a drying oak note. Oak isn't a flavor note typically associated with gin, which is exactly why barrel-aged examples like this are so intriguing.
The finish is long and warm, with hints of lavender buds, young bourbon, oak and white pepper.
This expression immediately gets the creative cocktail juices flowing. Any sweeter cocktail traditionally made with an aged spirit could be a contender for Juniper Jones Earl Grey. The gin is herbaceous, sweet and floral, finishing with just the right amount of drying bite. As a longtime fan of Earl Grey tea, I found this one especially easy to appreciate.
